What is this monument to? Event? Person? Object? Situation? -It is a donation from the US Institute of Peace. Peace Fountain-Monument. The monument isn't for any one specific event but rather in response to all events in recent years. Would this make a plausible real monument, or could it (and should it) only exist virtually? -It’s probably best if it only existed virtually. I don’t think it would hold up or if a water mechanism like that could be made. What is it made of? -It is primarily made of marble and Plexiglas Where is it located? (Specifically!) -At the end of the reflecting pool on the Lincoln Memorial side. How does it change as you move around it? -If you go up the stairs towards the Lincoln memorial, you’ll be able to see the fountain running. And as you move around you’ll be able to see the doves lined up, and how to water is sucked from the reflecting pool and cycled within the fountain. It’s possible to notice new details as you go around. How would the visitor interact, or not interact, with it? -Visitors can see the water flow as they go under it but other than that, there isn’t a way to actually interact with the monument itself other than watching it. Does it recontextualize the things around it? How different would it be in another location? -I don’t think it recontextualizes the surroundings it (hopefully) blends in with the existing monuments and environment. It would probably look misplaced in most places, and it has to be placed in water so that it can work. Would passers-by recognize your project as a monument? I think they would definitely see it as a water fountain initially and later recognize that it is a monument. The goal isn’t for it to be recognized as a monument initially.
